Staying in the Present Moment - The Key to a Well Lived Life
Have you noticed that as we get older, time seems to fly by? Now compare that to when we were children, and time went slow. I am convinced this is because as children, even though we looked forward to the next event, vacation or birthday, we mostly remained in the present moment. As adults, we often live in the past or dream/dread the future, paying little attention to what is happening in the here and now.
For centuries, the wisest on this planet have known that meditation isn't some new age baloney. Rather, it is the key to getting and staying present, not to mention a plethora of other benefits such as relieving anxiety, better sleep and better health. And today we have so many books, apps and tools to help us with our meditation that it is readily and easily accessible to us all. Here are a few tips to get started:
Start a habit of meditating for 2 minutes a day - For the first week notice where your mind drifts for those 2 minutes and don't beat yourself up over it. Just notice.
Set an intention for certain activities - Is there something you do that you would like to be more present for while doing? Perhaps its having a conversation with your friend or significant other or even cooking dinner. Take a moment to set an intention for that activity. Ex - "When I talk to him/her today I will focus all of my attention on the conversation we are having and make eye contact."
"Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life." - Omar Khayyam

Habit Tips to Live By - Keep Showing Up
Often we are so focused on doing a habit perfectly, that we give up before the habit even fully forms. Think of the Monday Diet Trap. Every Monday millions of people try to form a habit to eat more healthy. The first bite they take of something they don't think fits that healthy eating sends them into a spiral and then they find themselves eating everything that isn't nailed down. This is where the TINY Habits concept comes from. Making the habit so small and so specific that it's failure proof is the way to eventually build up to the larger habit of healthy eating. As an example, try creating a habit recipe that goes something like this "After I sit down for dinner, my first bite will be of the vegetable I cooked." I promise you that over time, you will start craving more vegetables and eating more of them without even trying. Just keep showing up.
The Collective Collection
I am NOT an affiliate of any of these products. I just use them and think they are cool.
This is a section where I highlight some of my favorite items related to Health. Wealth. Happiness and Home
Health - Portion Containers
How much you eat is an individual decision, but if you don't know what a portion actually looks like, it's hard to know how much or little you are eating. That's why I love these containers. They are like a colorful little reality check. If you want to know how to use them and why, join me for Group Coaching. The first session on May 4th is all about creating a healthier kitchen.
Wealth - LastPass
Anyone who has ever been hacked knows how expensive it can be, especially in terms of time...because time is money. I have been using LastPass for the past 30 days and just signed up for a year. They have a 30 day free trial. You pick one really unique password for your LastPass account, and LastPass remembers all of your others once you add them. Some of us have 20+ passwords so it is priceless to not have to remember all of them!
Happiness - Fresh Eyes
I don't mind spending money on makeup when it does what I need it to, but I find with concealers, you don't always get what you pay for. Not so with Elf Cosmetics. This primer trio goes on first and then the concealer (I like something with a peach tone to counteract dark circles) is so hydrating that it doesn't settle in fine lines around the eyes and makes you look fresh all day.
Home - Dresser Organizer
Just as a cluttered mind can disrupt sleep, so can a cluttered bedroom. The top of the dresser can quickly become the dumping ground for all kinds of things and it's hard to unwind when you keep bumping the dresser and hearing things fall off of it.
